While we were cleaning out the garage last weekend I came across a whole pile of things that I never even remembered we had. One of them was a fondue pot - still unopened in it’s original box. It was a wedding present. Wait for it…. wait for it…
Our wedding was almost 14 years ago!
That fondue pot has been sitting in that box in our garage for almost 14 years. I figured it was high time we put that pot to good use.
Fondue for dinner!
I’ve never made fondue. Ever. I’ve eaten it out quite a bit, but I have never attempted to make it at home. Probably because I didn’t know that my fondue pot was hiding in the garage all these years. I love fondue and it’s a great meal to make for families. It’s a one pot meal where everyone can choose their favorite foods to dip into the rich, cheesy goodness.
First stop… Smart & Final where I picked up some ingredients to prepare my first cheese fondue.
Ingredients:
1/2 lb. First Street Swiss Cheese
1/2 lb. Gruyere Cheese
2 tbs. corn starch
1 cup dry white wine
2 tbs. lemon juice
1 tbs. Dijon mustard
Dash of nutmeg
Assorted “dipping” foods (mushrooms, broccoli, bread, cherry tomatoes)
The first thing you want to do is grate the cheese. The grated cheese will melt very quickly and much smoother than chunk cheese. Mix the grated Swiss and Gruyere cheeses with the corn starch and set aside.
In a saucepan, heat the white wine and lemon juice over medium heat just until it starts to simmer. Add the cheese, small amounts at a time and stir continuously until smooth. Add the mustard and nutmeg.
Meanwhile, prepare bite sized pieces of your dipping foods. Pour the cheese mixture into your fondue pot and prepare to be wowed.

YUM! I love fondue, but have never made it either! 🙂 You made it look so easy (and tasty)…I might have to give it a try!
You know, I never made it before because I always thought it was so complicated… it really isn’t and it’s such a fun idea.
I love cheese fondue, and your recipe looks so easy! Wait until you try chocolate in that fondue pot!
I’m afraid to try chocolate… my kids will have me making it every single night. Once I start with chocolate, I can never turn back.
How fun! I’ve always wanted to do fondue with my kids, but never have. When I was a kid, we had it several times and I always thought it was so fancy.
How funny, I always thought it was an “adult” meal when I was a kid. I never had fondue of any kind until I was an adult.
looks delicious

I haven’t ever tried to make fondue, but your recipe looks so easy! And anything with lots of cheese is always good 🙂
I can’t believe I never attempted to make it before because it really IS easy. And so delish!
Oh this looks so good!!! I love cheese and fondue!!!
This makes me want to go buy a fondue set ASAP!! Ooooh, I bet I could do something similar in my mini crock pot…
